Newsflash -- May 2008 News Update

March 2008 Newsletter

Dear Colleagues
NEWS ON REVALIDATION

As arrangements for revalidation and enhanced Appraisal move on, your trust is also moving with the times. It now seems likely that Appraisal will be part of both Relicensure by the GMC, and Recertification by the RCGP. The evidence base for appraisal will include a CPD log of accredited events. Our college are likely to go for 50 credits (hours) of accredited education each year, in line with other royal colleges. Without being able to show that you have attended and reflected on these events, revalidation may be a problem. If you would like to learn more about how these policies are shaping up, Richard Wharton would be pleased to talk to you individually or in groups. Richard.Wharton@gp-L81070.nhs.uk

Although this may not happen for several years, BGPERT aim to enhance our Educational Programme over the next two years to provide more and varied events. We also have increased administrative costs, partly because of the success of our programme, and uncertainties about future administrative support in the Postgrad Centre. We have also accepted GPs in training as members. All members have reciprocal attendance rights to events throughout the Severn area, meaning you have access to an unprecedented range of activities. Just click on Bristol, Gloucester or Swindon on our website homepage at www.bathgped.org to see full details.

FEES INCREASE – PLEASE REVIEW STANDING ORDERS

As discussed at our AGM, we are increasing membership to £150 per year from April, or £250 for "No Free Lunch" option. Please ensure you update your standing order arrangements to the new amount in time for the April 1st renewal.

So please renew your membership now-we believe in the future you will need us as much as we need you!

We have listened to your requests and plan the Education Package to include

Traditional large day and half day events with a clinical theme
Ongoing themes with smaller meetings such as Radiology, Dermatology and Rheumatology with a plan to add regular Diabetes and Prescribing Groups
Increasing the value of our website to provide clinical downloads via meetings and contributed to by Consultant Colleagues
Responding to our Members suggestions. For instance some of you would like to participate in small groups for reflection and discussion.
For any requests for the Programme or related issues, Nicole Howse is happy to discuss these with you nicole@drhowse.co.uk
